If you’re like me, you’re probably still caught up in the pre-Christmas merry-go-round and a million miles away from that time when you can exhale for a minute and enjoy that beautiful time of year that is the post-Christmas stupor.
You know those lovely days between Boxing Day and New Year when time seems strangely suspended and each hour happily passes at a slower-than-normal rate. It’s a perfect time to spend pottering about, be with family or retreat to a cool shady spot and escape into the pages of a book or a magazine.
With this in mind, we’ve decided to give you the best of both worlds in our January edition with wonderful short stories written exclusively for Notebook: by five talented Australian authors. There’s also a must-read guide to our favourite books of 2008 and fashion designer Leona Edmiston; author Kate Grenville; foodie Stephanie Alexander and Jennifer Byrne (host of the ABC’s well-loved First Tuesday Book Club) and others talk about the books that changed their lives.
