  • I prevent food waste by giving it to our guinea pigs if we don't eat it!

  • Have teenagers nothing in my house gets wasted as it always gets eaten.

  • Chickens love leftovers!  Are easy and ecomical to keep and produce eggs in return.  Kids adore them and neighbours enjoy the overabundance.

  • I have the kids help choose recipes and help cook meals meaning that they are more prepared to eat the food rather than waste it.

  • Cook enough for a friend and freeze it until you visit. They - particularly older ones - appreciate a home cooked meal and being thought of!

  • The dog has his own doggy Tupperware container in the fridge.  Any leftover meat rice or pasta is enjoyed by the dog the next day.

  • So my FUSSY children eat everything I keep clean expensive brand containers and pour in homebrand products. They haven't noticed yet!

  • With unreliable teenagers not coming home for cooked meals. I freeze them in meal size portions for times I don't feel like cooking.

  • My kids love this one! If fruit starts to over-ripen we bake delicious fruit muffins. And they never go to waste in our family.

  • Any food from my house that is left over is given to my dogs. As long as it does not contain chocolate onion or garlic.

  • Sick of pulling squashed fruit from school bags I now make them into skewers and send to school in a Tupperware container No more mush.

  • My children collect our fruit and vegetable scraps to take to their school for their worm farm for the schools vegetable garden.

  • We have 2 food buckets; Dog and chook bucket, Fruit and veg scraps to the chooks and meat scraps to the dogs. Easy!

  • Fussy toddler = wasted food Tip: Freeze small portions and only defrost as she eats them while waiting to defrost second portion give cheese or biscuit.

  • Involve the children  Explain the importance of preventing food waste and devise an action plan. Kids never forget and will keep you on task.

  • If you don't have one of your own invite a teenage boy and 3 mates for dinner nothing will be left in fridge pantry freezer afterward.

  • Get a worm farm!!If you end up with spoiled fruit+veg feed it to worms, They will soon reward you with nutritious fertiliser for your plants.

  • New Years' resolution with a friend to use all food purchased. Helps family eat healthier by making risotto's, pizza etc. I want to pass the message on to everyone!

  • Offer children incentives to eat all of lunch. 50 ticks gets them a toy.
