Hints and Tips
Keep colour on the centre of the cheek and avoid too much contouring - ‘Sculpted cheek’ is no longer fashionable and can be ageing.
How to...
Moisturise
With a good moisturising cream as a base, your foundation will glide on and provide your blush with an even canvas. You could also use a primer in addition to the moisturiser.
Foundation
Spread a liquid foundation over your face using your fingers. make-up artist, Chris Coonrod, says this method “gives you better control and maximum use of the product as sponges tend to absorb and therefore waste a lot of product”. Lightly dust the foundation with loose powder to set it.
Blush
Dip your fingers into the pot and paint a few short stripes on the centre of your cheek (the part that sticks out the furthest when you smile and is in line with your iris - commonly known as the ‘apple’). Then blend and spread the colour using circular movements, making sure it fades at the edges. If you are using gel blush, skip step two, as gels don’t sit as well on foundation as mousses or creams. “Be careful when using either cream or gel blush if you have big pores as it can ‘grab’ and look uneven,” says Chris. This problem can be corrected with step four.
Powder
Take a clean brush and dust over your cream or gel blush with loose powder to stop it from sliding. Chris loves how a sheer veil of powder gives a more natural effect, making the cheek colour appear as if it’s coming from below the foundation rather than sitting on top.
